Atalaya is one of SFPS’ six elementary schools in downtown/near north Santa Fe and is a NM Spotlight School with a designation of Excellence School. NM Vistas Score can be seen here.

Atalaya Elementary School is a mid-sized school known for its small, family-friendly feel. Nestled in the foothills of the East Mountains, our team of teachers provides a strong academic foundation that seeks to instill the love of learning in every student.

We believe in educating the whole child and offer a balanced curriculum of math, language arts, inquiry science and social studies. Each classroom experience includes various grade-level traditions such as DoD STARBASE, National Dance Institute and more.

Atalaya has forged strong partnerships with neighboring schools Santa Fe Prep and St. John’s College, which support students through tutoring and mentorships.

Atalaya offers the Atalaya Cares after-school program providing enrichment activities and homework support. Students can also participate in fall(girls) and winter(boys) basketball , Spring volleyball and the musical theater program.

Atalaya has a strong and active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that sponsors many enriching opportunities for our families. The annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day offers one of the largest 5K runs in Northern New Mexico.

The PTA also hosts the Fall Festival, Atalaya Turkey Trot, Winter Family Dance, Earth Day Event, Spring and Fall Book Fairs, family dinners out and much more! Its goal is to support all students and families through sponsoring grade-level traditions and schoolwide teacher professional development and offering teacher stipends to support classroom needs.
