Storybook Pumpkin Contest Atalaya Elementary School October 15, 2024 StoryBook Pumpkin contest My Favorite Book Character The Atalaya Library is growing a Storybook Pumpkin Patch, and we need your help! Decorate a pumpkin to look like one of your favorite book characters, and bring it to the library to plant in our Storybook Pumpkin Patch! No Carved or Cut Fresh Pumpkins Will Be Accepted Think of your favorite book and design your pumpkin based on your favorite character from that book. Purchase a craft or fresh pumpkin. Craft pumpkins work best. You can save it as a future decoration! Gather your decorating supplies. Acrylic paints work best. Watercolors tend to run. Other options include adding materials such as yarn, buttons, wiggly eyes, etc. If using a fresh pumpkin, decorate your pumpkin without carving, cutting, or poking holes in it. Fill out the entry form on the back and return it with your pumpkin. Bring your pumpkin and your entry form to the Storybook Pumpkin Patch (also known as your Library!) anytime between October 21st-October 28th. Pumpkins will be judged by staff on October 29th-30th. Winners will be announced on Thursday October 31st. All Storybook Pumpkins may be taken home at the end of school on Thursday, October 31st. If your child needs assistance getting it home please make arrangements to do this. Participation is completely voluntary. A Scholastic gift certificate for a free book will be awarded in each grade level to the most creative pumpkins in the patch! The Scholastic gift certificate can be redeemed during our Book Fair in November! You may receive help from family members. Have fun and be creative! Please feel free to contact me with any questions! Thank you! The New Mexico Public Education Department has issued new guidance for handling threats that originate on social media. Recently, schools across the nation have seen a surge in social media threats—many of which are hoaxes or pranks. Even when these threats are unfounded, they can still lead to widespread fear, the cancellation of events, and a strain on resources. We urge everyone to be vigilant online and report any suspicious activity to authorities. Let's work together to keep our schools safe and protect our community's well-being.

Hello Atalaya Family, What a great first full week of school! It was so great to see all the happy smiles this week. I wanted to remind you of a few things: 1. Pick up begins at 3:15 Monday - Thursday and at 1:05 on Friday. Please limit early pickups as they disrupt learning for your student and for others. 2. At both drop off and pick up times, if you are picking up or dropping off in the car line, please pull all the way to the front by cone 1 so that six cars can fit in the first six cones. 3. If you are walking up to pick up your student in front of the school, please cross only at the front cross walk, and only when the duty personnel allows you to cross. Thank You for keeping us all safe and learning! Kate Diaz

What students do both inside and outside of the classroom impacts their educational success. When students participate in activities outside the classroom, such as clubs, sports or school events, they develop a sense of belonging and community. Check out this week's SFPS Bulletin at https://conta.cc/3X6DVUb and the perspective of Lucas Robbins, a senior at Mandela International Magnet School and student member of the SFPS Board of Education, as he discusses student engagement!
